This weeks top picks
This week’s top picks post is all about small independent businesses ! If you enjoy shopping as much as I do then you will know after a while you end looking at the same old shops. So where do you go to find something a little bit different? Google is where most of us end up but it can bring up the same names over and over again, the same larger stores whith a healthy budget to spend in order to be top of the search! So how do you go about discovering the smaller stores, independent stores, new businesses? Instagram is where I go, there are thousands of small independent retailers using Instagram who would not necessarily be found on a Google search (at least not in the first page and that’s the only page I usually look at!). So I just wanted to share a few here this week.
Anna Marie is the big chief at Black Cat Design. The biz started as a way to raise money for their foster fail, Ed. He was diagnosed with a terminal illness when he was a kitten and recommended to be put to sleep along with his litter. Anna Marie decided to keep them all and every penny from the sale of those beautiful prints go to pay the vet bills. The awesome monochrome designs are the result of a close collaboration between Anna Marie and her sons, Donnacha, 13 and Finn 14! Those prints would look awesome in any kids rooms, so many to choose from, my personal favourites are Phil and Ed as well as the Native American prints collection… They are based in Australia and ship all over the world.
A girl can never have too much stationary! I never got enough notebooks, diaries, more notebooks that are all too beautiful to write in! Sounds familiar? So when Natalie got in touch asking if I wanted some of her new notebooks I couldn’t say no could I! These little beauties are the perfect size to fit in my bag and I use them for shopping lists, to do lists, or all sorts of notes when I’m working! A bit of background… Natalie studied Architectural Venue Design and after some time working for other people decided to take the plunge and start her very own company creating her own products with her own designs. A very brave move as we all know how tough running your own biz can be. Keep checking as more lines of patterns will be introduced as well as expanding the range of interior products. At the end of the summer Natalie will be releasing a further 3 patterns while developing the service side of her business but for now the range includes cushions, notebooks, pocket mirrors and make up bags all available to purchase here.
How hard is it to find something “cool” for your pre teens rooms? very hard! So when these guys very kindly sent me “Johnny Slept and Taylor Sleep” I thought ok perfect for Maddie’s room knowing I’d probably get the “Mum do we have to keep these?” But what I got instead was… “Wow I want those, so cool mum!” Any mother out there with a child over the age of 10 that tells you you’re cool, you know you’re seriously cool! Result! For my part the pillows are super soft and I’m loving the touch of colour in Maddie’s otherwise very white room Everyone that has seen them, has wanted them! So well done you guys at Chatty Pillows. They also do a fab range of socks, modelled here by my very lovely daughter, they are available in adult and children sizes and are super super soft. Might even be the perfect gift for the eternal “what shall we get Dad for Father’s Day” question! Loads of fun designs that will bring a smile to everyone’s face in the mornings! Well, most mornings!
